Mother / Brighton & Hove, UK / Dec 2009 Pile of socks with post-it note placed on sidewalk in Hove, performance. Mother is a project which is half-performance, half-public-intervention. In November 2009, I challenged myself not to wear matching socks for a week. I documented my act thorougly. Aside from the excitement of doing something which those around me were not aware of, it also became clear that there was a far too large ammount of undesirable socks in my wardrobe, which I only wear when all the normal ones are dirty or when I start projects like this one. Therefore, I decided to place all of the "undesirables" along with a post-it note that read "Could you please sort these out for me -Mother" on a sidewalk in Hove. What is any good artistic outcome if not the act of making public something which was at first a personal experience, wrapped in a slightly unsettling package? |
